London Underground Mobile Coverage Expansion

London Underground Mobile Coverage Expansion By CoverageChecker.com

Alex · 09 Jun 2026

TfL expands London Underground mobile coverage with more 4G and 5G to stations and tunnels, aiming for full connectivity by end of 2026.

The UK rail network has traditionally had a poor coverage record across the UK, but Transport for London (TfL) has hit a new milestone in its mission to bring high-speed connectivity to the capital’s oldest transport arteries. With more stations and tunnels now wired for 4G and 5G, the dream of a fully connected commute is becoming a reality.

60% Coverage Achieved

TfL has confirmed that mobile coverage is now live at approximately 60% of all London Underground stations. This latest stage of the rollout delivers a crucial boost to the Bakerloo, Circle, District, and Metropolitan lines.

Most importantly, this update isn't just about platforms. The expansion now includes the tunnels between stations, meaning your connection stays active for a much larger share of your daily journey.

A Massive Infrastructure Challenge

For decades, the London Tube has been a notorious "cold spot" for mobile users due to its deep, historic, and complex tunnel network. Bringing modern, reliable signals to these environments is a monumental engineering feat, it is as much a construction project as it is a telecommunications upgrade.

Who is Building the Network?

This transformation is the result of a dedicated partnership between TfL, major UK mobile operators, and infrastructure partner Boldyn Networks.

Customers of the UK’s primary providers, including EE, Vodafone, Three UK, and Virgin Media O2 are already beginning to see the benefits. This unified approach ensures that passengers receive a consistent experience, regardless of their mobile provider.

Looking Ahead to 2026

The pace is set to quicken as we approach the final goal. The project remains firmly on track to deliver full mobile coverage across the entire Underground network by the end of 2026. As more sections go live in the coming months, millions of commuters can look forward to a seamless, connected journey across one of the world's busiest transport systems.
